Essential Oils vs. Fragrance
This is probably the most asked question I get in relation to personal care and cleaning products. Why is fragrance bad?
So, it may not be bad BUT there are no rules around it. Anything that has Fragrance listed on an ingredient list is a NO for us. A manufacturer can use the term “fragrance” and call it a proprietary blend - like a "secret formula" - and not disclose what they’ve really used. It's a way to look like you’ve disclosed ingredients when you really haven’t. Super sneaky.
According to the EWG synthetic fragrances may be the most common toxic ingredient in the average home. Luckily, it's also one of the easiest to avoid.
Also, we advise avoiding any synthetic fragrance where you can. Many are derived from petroleum-based petro-chemicals. They can also have phthalates and other ingredients, which are known endocrine disruptors and carcinogens so we say stick with products that are unscented or are scented with essential oils. According to EWG's Skin Deep Database many fragrance mixes have been associated with lots of negative health issues. Synthetic fragrance has been tied to allergies, dermatitis, respiratory issues and have a negative impact on hormones and the reproductive system.
The good news? We are committed to using only the safest ingredients and EVERYTHING in our line is scented with only essential oils (which may also have some great cleaning benefits, too). Essential oils smell better than most synthetic fragrances, can cleanse the air and have no toxic impacts in your home.
